One fun place where we camped was the beautiful Calamigos Guest Ranch south of Mulholland Highway and just west of Kanan Dune Road. With 200 acres of land, this rustic and elegant hotel, owned by the same family for five generations, includes private cottages. bungalows and estate rooms, a spa, fitness center and gym, three pools, a lake with paddle boats, organic gardens, a trendy restaurant, and features corrals of some exotic animals. A popular location for weddings and conferences, the ranch also offers complimentary rides to their very own private Beach Club. Of course we were there to camp and I'm sure many guests wondered what the sudden influx of tents was. But it was a welcome break in our perambulations across the Santa Monica Mountains. |
