This hike begins at Cloudburst Summit (7033') near mileage marker 57.10 on the Angeles Crest Highway, drops down into Cooper Canyon, passing Cooper Canyon Trail Camp in 2.5 miles, reaching the Burkhart Trail (5707') in another mile, and then proceeds uphill to the parking area below Buckhorn Campground (6300'). On this day I was joined by Tom Chester, RT Hawke, Nancy Accola, Walt Fidler, Adrienne Ballwey, and William Schlegel (all the way from Santa Barbara). It was a bit warm, however the pine- and manzanita-covered hillsides were beautiful, and we made it to the parking area as dusk was falling. Although we saw well over 80 species, many were not present in great numbers, and Tom remarked that in general this section of the PCT was less floristic than the one he did a few days before going west from Cloudburst Summit to Three Points. The symbol ^ next to the common name indicates a species that was new to me when I photographed it on this field trip, and a ~ next to the Latin name is for an uncertain identification. The photographs here were taken 6/14/15 and 6/18/15. Tom Chester's flora of this area is here.
