[Named for Dr. Charles Austin Stivers, c.1837-1888, often cited as an Army Lt., who first discovered it near Yosemite in 1862. This is a species primarily of Central and Northern California, although it has been vouchered in Kern Co. (by Jim Shevock) and San Bernardino and LA Counties. It was probably transplanted here but seems to be thriving.]
