| Sticky-leaved rabbitbrush Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus Asteraceae [It occurs to me that 'viscidiflorus' means 'with sticky flowers' yet the common name of this taxon is sticky-leaved rabbitbrush so viscidifolius might be a more appropriate epithet, but it turns out that the phyllaries are sticky too.]. |

| Columbia cutleaf, Southern mountain cutleaf Hymenopappus filifolius var. lugens Asteraceae |
||||
['Columbia cutleaf' is a curiously inappropriate common name for this taxon which is an inhabitant of the Transverse and Peninsular Ranges. Apparently so named because one of the variants of this species does live in the Columbia Gorge region of the Pacific Northwest, a more appropriate name for it would be Southern mountain cutleaf, and that's what I'm going to use from now on.] |
