RED BUTTE WASH, JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK
FEBRUARY 2008

Photographs by Michael Charters

This is the first of what I intend to be a series of photo galleries from hikes and field trips that I will take across southern California, and is more or less a follow-up to the series of field trip logs which I wrote and posted online from July, 2004 to April, 2007, including approximately 139 individual outings. My field trip logs can be found here. [NOTE: Subsequent to the creation of this photo gallery, I have gone back and done more than a dozen galleries for field trips whose dates preceded this one.] This photo gallery is comprised of photos taken on two separate visits on Feb. 11 and Feb. 21, 2008, the first of which was with my extremely knowledgeable friend Tom Chester and several others including Jane Strong, James Dillane, Wayne Armstrong, Dave Stith, and Eric Baecht. Red Butte Wash is off Hayfield Rd from I-10 and along the southern park entrance road. It is in the southernmost part of the Eagle Mountains and the floristic province which is best associated with this area is the Sonoran Desert.
