The pictures in this gallery were taken in a number of different locations on two trips into the San Bernardino Mountains in June and September of 2004. The first trip was with R.T. Hawke into a burn area near Lake Arrowhead and the second was by myself along Jenks Lake Road. |

The genus Helenium has been said to
have been named by Linnaeus for Helen of Troy, according to the legend that these flowers sprang up from the ground where her tears had supposedly fallen after she was abducted by Paris. Linnaeus is known to have been fond of using mythological references. |
