Top row: Grinnell's penstemon (Penstemon grinnellii var. grinnellii); Middle row: Doubtful penstemon (my name) (Penstemon X dubius); Bottom row: Scarlet bugler (Penstemon centranthifolius).
This is an interesting plant I found which is a hybrid of the two named parents grinnellii and centranthifolius on the Jepson list of unresolved taxa but listed as a likely addition to the flora. There is another hybrid species also awaiting final determination called Penstemon X parishii which has centranthifolius and spectabilis as its parents.
