As I described in
Northern Inyo County Part One, I opted to skip the day of this Jepson workshop which was scheduled to visit Eureka Dunes, a place that I would in a good year have been eager to revisit, and instead spent an absolutely delightful day with Steve Matson scouring the terrain of several floristic areas that were not included in the workshop itinerary. Steve is incredibly knowledgeable about the flora of this area where he lives part of the year. As anyone who has attended a Jepson workshop or a similar type of field trip will know, it is extremely difficult for photographers to get their pictures, keep up with the group, make sure their identifications are correct, and keep decent notes. Identifications given in the field are usually but not always correct or complete, as the trip leaders will freely acknowledge. And the difficulty is all the more pronounced when the area in question is not one that the photographer is overly familiar with. For these reasons, I do not shy away from suggestions that identifications as given in these photo galleries may need to be revisited, and I happily entertain and invite any suggestions as to corrections that are felt to be necessary. In the meantime, I hope that some of the workshop participants at least will enjoy seeing photographs of some of the other species that were perhaps less or not in evidence on our Friday and Sunday outings in the field. Of necessity there are species included here that were also included in Northern Inyo County Part One since we were in the same general vicinity.
